“Like anyone else, I too have anger in me. However, I try to recall that anger is a destructive emotion. Scientists say anger is bad for our health; it eats into our immune system. It destroys our peace of mind. We shouldn’t welcome it or think of it as natural or as a friend.”
His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama
Anger is a symptom of energy in motion, (e-motion) in this case- adrenaline, from the perception of threat or fear. as one tries to adjust to an insane or hypocritical reality – when we actually have no objective control or worse are being manipulated.
Each trigger though, is like a gingerbread clue to another layer of hidden belief about reality. When we respond to the external, we are taken from our inner harmony and balance. Perhaps a goal might be to ask “why”, rather than condemn or chastise after getting upset. There are no mistakes or accidents – as a community we are dealing with age-old karma and from our not-so-spotless past lives now too.
Yes anger is bad, but well-managed anger can be a useful emotion that motivates you to make positive changes. On the other hand, anger is a powerful emotion and if it isn’t handled appropriately, it may have destructive results for you and those closest to you.
Well said Harish Singh Ji. Thank you for sharing your wise word.
